Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
What is the Prayers & Squares Quilt Ministry?
The Prayers & Squares Quilt Ministry at Richmond Hill Baptist Church is a member of Prayers & Squares International (www.prayerquilt.org), an interfaith outreach organization that combines the gift of prayer with the gift of a hand-tied quilt. Unlike many other groups who make quilts for charitable causes, the purpose of Prayers & Squares is not to just make and distribute quilts. Our purpose is to promote prayer through the use of quilts.
Member chapters agree to follow these "Three Commandments" of Prayers & Squares:
1. Our goal is to promote prayer and involve as many people as possible in our prayer efforts. Our motto is: "It's not about the quilt; it's all about the prayers."
2. We always ask before giving the gift of a prayer quilt. We particularly need to know if the person to receive the quilt will accept our gift of prayer, what they would like us to pray for and what information about their situation may be shared with others.
3. We do not accept any form of payment for a prayer quilt. It is a gift of love that cannot be bought or sold.
What is a Prayer Quilt?
The idea behind our prayer quilts is simple. A heavy thread is used to make stitches through the quilt layers. The ends of these stitches are left free for a square knot to be tied. As each knot is tied, a silent prayer is said for a person in special need who then receives the finished quilt.
We think the dedication of each quilt is very important and seals our promise of love and concern for the person receiving the quilt. Dedications take place in one of our worship services, a Sunday School class, Bible study or a Prayers & Squares work session. Sometimes, a quiet hospital room or a home visit can serve as a dedication for someone needing prayers.
Who Can Receive a Prayer Quilt?
A prayer quilt is appropriate for anyone who is experiencing physical, emotional, spiritual or some other life crisis. A prayer quilt is for anyone who feels they could benefit from being "covered in prayer. "The quilt is a tangible sign of God's ever-present grace that is available to all of us.

Prayers & Squares meets the first Wednesday of each month at 9:00 am in our Fellowship Hall. We welcome all willing hands and hearts to join us. You do not have to sew to be a part of our group. We have tasks suited for each member and they all add flavor and creativity to our quilts.
